For someone who is not familiar with Roll-Your-Own Cigarette or Hand-Rolled Tobacco it is definitely going to get confusing with the variety of rolling paper sizes available. Even those who regularly do their own RYO cigarettes might not know that there are many rolling paper sizes to choose from! We realized this when customers were looking for rolling papers at the store they tended to use generic requests for products.
“Give me a rolling paper and a filter.”
“I want standard size rolling papers.”
“I want the rolling papers the same size as the cigarettes.”
In this case, our staff would have to ask further questions to figure out what exactly the size of rolling papers the customers wanted. We deeply understand that this thing can give you a headache, especially for someone who does not constantly use the products. We must admit we even still get confused by the abundant options of rolling paper sizes and filters that keep increasing everyday since rolling papers have become even more popular both in Thailand and the rest of the world.
The main point here is to solve the puzzle and give a further explanation about rolling paper sizes so you can get a crystal-clear picture of what the difference between each type is and what does each name, such as King Size, King Size Slim or 1 ¼ Rolling Papers, really mean.
Before beginning, we must explain a bit more about the size of rolling papers we’re about to discuss is the general one- calling it the standard type is also correct. Each brand has their own standard, so don’t be surprised to find two rolling papers with the same model’s name but have a 2mm different in sizing. This is common.
If you don’t like something complicated, the above picture should help answer the question about rolling paper sizes the best. (This picture is provided by the distributor of RAW, ELEMENTS and JUICY JAY . They could have different calling names for some specific types.) The chart compares the rolling papers to body shapes and you can see various kind of shapes – fat, thin and long.
The general cigarette length is 84 – 85mm, which is the 5th guy from the left with the length indicated 84mm. (Surprisingly, the rolling paper manufacturers didn’t introduce this length into the market.)
Single Wide Rolling Paper – This is commonly used by a lot of smokers. This one is the smallest model with a length of 70mm.
1 ¼ Rolling Paper – This type of paper is 79mm in length which is longer and wider than the previous model. If someone wants rolling papers with the closest length to normal cigarettes, this is the one.
1 ½ Rolling Paper – This model has the same length as 1 ¼ but with a wider dimension, suitable for rolling big cigarettes or cigarettes with multiple thick layers.
King Size Slim Rolling Paper – The King Size Slim or KSS for short seems to be the favorite choice for many. The standard length is 110mm which is longer than a normal cigarette but the majority of RYO Cigarette smokers like slim rolled or thinner than regular cigarettes. This doesn’t always mean using long rolling papers as it can be wasted or ends up becoming a bigger cigarette.
King Size Rolling Paper – A lot of people get confused by this model. That’s because the old model and the present model are not the same size. The old model of King Size rolling paper is 98 – 100 mm in length with a wider height than the King Size Slim. This dimension was not very popular among smokers. That’s why later on some manufacturers had to hold the production line for this model or switched to make the 110mm long King Size rolling paper with a wider height than King Size Slim instead.
The picture above shows the standard dimensions of rolling papers available in the market. Don’t forget each brand has its own standard, so don’t be surprised if the sizes do vary slightly depending on what brand of paper you choose.
